Oklahoma – College Options for Single Mothers

College can be a wonderful thing and it’s such an exciting experience if you choose the right college that fits all your wants and needs. You may or may not have known this but Oklahoma has its fair share of good colleges in most of its cities for you to consider. Whether you’re a single mother considering going back to college or helping a child pick out their dream college, you have a lot of options to choose from. Each option has a lot of good things about them and depending how you look at it, it can be a good thing or a bad thing.

Now while you may or may not know this, actually finding the best colleges for you can be a little bit of a task if you don’t know where to search. I understand the frustrations all too well, especially when you keep seeing articles with different things but in attempt to make it easier for you, I’m going to try and help narrow the search for you. I will take down the facts and let you decide for yourself if any of these options work for you but keep in mind, there will only be a few options listed here.

University of Oklahoma

University of Oklahoma is a public research university located in Norman, Oklahoma. The college offers 152 baccalaureate programs, 160 masters programs, 75 doctorate programs, and 20 major professional programs. In both 2006 and 2008, it was rated one of the 20 most wired colleges, and the Carnegie Foundation it as to having very high research activity. For sports fans, don’t fret too much, the university is very active in sports and has won 7 NCAA division I national football championships.

University of Tulsa

The university of Tulsa is a private university and it is obviously located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s faculty includes the famous Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko, psychologist Robert Hogan, and political scientist Robert Donaldson. It offers programs like petroleum engineering, computer and natural sciences, English, among other similar programs. The sports team competes in the division I of the NCAA and are known as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

This university is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and it is a health sciences branch of the University of Oklahoma. Around the building, there are at least twenty health related buildings, all which are owned by the University of Oklahoma. All classes at this college are mostly related to health and are known to be quality classes. There are around 800 academic staff, approximately 2400 admin staff, and 4000 students currently attending this college.

Northeastern State University

This is a public college and it can be found in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, although two other campuses can be found in Muskogee and Broken Arrow. It is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning education in the state of Oklahoma. The classes are known to be of excellent quality and there are a variety of classes to choose from. From all the campuses, there are over 9000 students enrolled and at least twenty-five percent of them identify themselves as American Indian. The athletic teams are known as the RiverHawks and the university competes in the NCAA division II level.

Cameron University

This college is located in Lawton, Oklahoma and is a state funded, four year college. It offers more than 50 degrees to choose from with two year, four year, or graduate programs. You can choose between liberal arts, science, technology, graduate, and professional studies. Cameron is the only university in Oklahoma that offers associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees all at one site. As far as sports goes, they’re very involved in football, basketball, and even participate in golf.

Oklahoma Baptist University

Oklahoma Baptist University is Christian liberal arts university and it is in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It is ranked one of the top five baccalaureate colleges in the western region and in 2013, it was ranked one of America’s best colleges by US News & World Report. You can choose between studies such as fine arts to business, to nursing, and many others. There are a number of sports the college participates in including basketball, softball, soccer, swimming and many others.

Now this list doesn’t include every good college in Oklahoma but it does include a few for you to consider and I hope this list helped you in some way, shape, or form. I still recommend you do a little more research on these colleges and other colleges in Oklahoma so you can be sure of what college you truly want to attend. Take in each option carefully and as long as you explore every aspect, you should have no problem finding the college right for you.
